Consistency through responsibility – what else sets us apart

During the COVID-19 pandemic and other economic crises, we did not have to eliminate a single job. On the contrary: we remained stable — and in some areas even continued to grow.

This consistency is no accident. It is based on our “Swabian prudence,” our long-term thinking, and solid corporate management that does not rely on short-term effects but on sustainable stability.

Guided by our core values, we finance new projects on the basis of sufficient liquidity. This financial independence gives us room to act, protects jobs, and enables us to remain reliable even in challenging times — for our employees, our customers, and our region. Strength is not only shown in growth, but in the ability to overcome crises together. And that is exactly what defines us.

Company history spanning four generations

1932

Pforzheim, 1932: In a small workshop, master mechanic Emil Hahnenkratt was tinkering with something that would become bigger than anything he could have imagined. His passion? Precision. His drive? Making things better than they had ever been before.

With a steady hand and a keen eye for detail, he began developing dental products designed to make dentists’ work easier and give patients a reason to smile. From this idea grew E. HAHNENKRATT GmbH—a family-owned company that, to this day, puts innovation and quality at its core.

Mechanikermeister Emil Hahnenkratt
1945

February 23, 1945: A bombing raid completely destroys the company building. All that remains is rubble, ashes—and the determination not to give up. With their last ounce of strength, the employees salvage the few remaining pieces of machinery from the debris. They load them onto a horse-drawn cart and bring them to Stein—the place where HAHNENKRATT dares to make a new beginning.

Umzug in die neue Heimat
1959-1971

After the war, at the age of 45, Emil Hahnenkratt took a courageous new start—in his own garage. A gifted technician with an unfailing touch for his machines, he began producing the first medical small parts in series.

With the next generation—his daughter and son-in-law—a fresh wave of energy entered the company. Together, they brought progress and new ideas: the first dental instruments and products were developed, and HAHNENKRATT established the global connections that still shape the company to this day.

Messe 1959
1967

The move in 1967 gave HAHNENKRATT the space it needed to grow: room for state-of-the-art manufacturing technology, new ideas, and the development of innovative products. This was an important step that laid the foundation for the company's technological strength, which is still evident today.

1980 - 1989

In 1980, the next generation brought fresh momentum to the company. New ideas, new products—HAHNENKRATT looked to the future. Another milestone followed in 1989: the move into the new company building in the industrial area, which has since been expanded twice to keep up with continuous growth.

As early as 1985, a clear focus was placed on sustainable, plastic-free packaging with the introduction of mouth mirror packaging.

2013

2013 marked an important milestone in our company's development. That year, our company building was extensively expanded to create additional production capacity and to expand both our warehouse and administration areas. At the same time, we strategically developed our product portfolio: with the introduction of RELAX mouth mirrors and ERGOform handles, not only were new product categories added, but our manufacturing expertise was also significantly enhanced—especially through the establishment of our own injection molding processes.

2019

In 2019, Emil Hahnenkratt's great-grandson took over as the company's successor. He didn't just inherit an existing legacy—he grew into it. From an early age, he experienced entrepreneurship as part of daily family life, developed a fascination for technology early on, and got to know the company naturally over many years. After successfully completing his industrial engineering studies at KIT Karlsruhe, he now brings exactly what drives our ongoing development: a clear engineering mindset, strong analytical skills, and a commitment to continuously optimizing machines, processes, and technologies.

Through his involvement, significant technological and strategic developments were achieved – including the RELAX dental mirrors, design protection for key products, new cutting technologies, and the further development of the Pro posts - CYTECpro and CONTECpro.
